The Red Pony is not about a red pony. Its about a boy named Jody. The entire book, everything that happens, and everything that is said and done is said and done for Jody.

This book, much like John Steinbeck's The Pearl, is a book of discussion. Its an easy read - full of excellent writing. This book will dwell in your thoughts as you make sense of its meaning. It might even visit you in your dreams.

I relate this book to The Shack and Black Beauty because (A) it assaults your perception of life (The Shack) and (B) it forces you to acknowledge the cause and effect of your actions and words (Black Beauty).

GoodReads: Dragon's Blood

Dragon's Blood by Jane Yolen

The story of Jakkin and the dragon pits of Austar IV fed both my curiosity and my imagination. Its an easy read with a fulfilling story. If you like Ender's Game and The Blue Sword, you'll like Dragon's Blood.

Yolen shares her wisdom on human relationships through the dialog and interactions between the "bonders" and the "masters" that was a stark allegory for our winning and losing mentality in society today. I was shocked by this concept: Do you have the courage to be free? The idea of freedom is presented as the responsibility of being your own man instead of a slave to your fear.
